Mayo Clinic Rochester Minnesota - Gonda Buildi...

I have been super busy! Since my last post (which I actually pre-wrote to be sure it posted on my dog’s birthday) a lot has been going on.

Two weeks ago I went to Austin, TX for work. It was a quick overnight trip. Uneventful flights, nice hotel, and good food. I really want to go back to check out the downtown scene with all the music clubs and other night life. My friend and I are planning a 4 day weekend and I put Austin as one of our choices!

Last week I went to Minneapolis/Rochester, MN for another overnight work trip. We went to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, and it is quite impressive. Again, this was a quick trip, with no time to do much of anything. I spent 5 hours in the MSP airport waiting for my boss and our consultant since their flights were delayed causing missed connections. I went to this fabulous restaurant called Ike’s for lunch. I had their Kitchen Burger, which was awesome! It has blue cheese, which I love, and bacon. You cannot go wrong with that combination. After lunch I found an empty gate area and did some work. Then I took a walk and found a better place to sit and chill out. I arrived in MSP around 2pm. My boss was scheduled to get in at 6:30. So I met him at his gate, and we went back to Ike’s. I raved about it and I knew my boss would like it. We still had another hour to wait for our consultant to get in. I got something light, the Knife and Fork Caesar. It was pretty good, I loved the shave parmesan. My boss got the fried walleye, which he made me try (he also made me try redfish when we were in Austin). Um, I’m not a big fresh water fish kind of person. I tried a small bite, and it was ok. I would not order it, but the batter it was in was nice and light and crispy. By the time we finished, our consultant’s flight landed and we headed to the car rental place and went on our way to Rochester. We had some good meetings the next day, and headed back to Minneapolis for another meeting. Finally it was time to head to the airport. And guess where we had dinner again? Oh yes, Ike’s! I had the grilled chicken bacon sandwich or something like that. It had Wisconsin cheddar cheese and bacon. Again another combination you can’t go wrong with.

So that brings us to this weekend.

I have spent the last 6-8 weeks or so planning an event for work where we brought in 25 customers for a workshop. And it was this weekend. It started Friday night with a welcome reception, and the hotel totally rocked it. Great food, great drinks, and great company. Saturday morning started at 7am with breakfast, and then a full day of learning for everyone. Everything went very smoothly. Dinner was at the Chart House in Cardiff. So good! And Sunday we had a short session so everyone could get to the airport on time to head home. I received so many compliments and thank you’s, it’s almost been overwhelming! This meeting completely exceeded expectations, even mine! I am so excited about work now, and looking forward to actually having ownership of something and feeling like I accomplished something great.

So now for this week. Busy recapping from the weekend, writing thank-you’s, catching up on 2 weeks worth of e-mails, and just trying to breathe. Thursday starts a meeting down in San Diego, so I’ll sort of be on the road. I’m kind of looking forward to the meeting, but mostly to seeing people I’ve known for several years now. And now that I’m starting to settle into my role in the company, and not trying to be in anyone else’s business, I think I can relax.

So with all this going on, my eating and exercising has gone down the tubes. I did get to spin class yesterday at lunch. It felt good. So once this week is over, I can get back to planning my meals, buying my groceries, and cooking up some good food.

That is all. I’m tired just recapping everything!

i failed

Yes, after a day of eating properly, I have failed. I couldn’t stop thinking about Oreo’s on my drive home, so what do I do, I pull into the grocery store and pick up not one but two packs of Oreo’s. Shoot, they were on sale, hence the two packages. I have no idea why I do this. I get fixated on a food (a bad one at that) and just have to have it 24/7. I’ve probably eaten 3/4 of the package already, in like 15 min.

I don’t know why I have blogged about this either, but I am trying to be more accountable and I figure by posting on my blog, it will help me. Either someone will see this and send me encouraging words, and/or I will review my posts and remember just how awful I felt as I was writing this. And I did so good today. I even tracked my food on Dr. Oz’s ShareCare website (his 11 weeks to fit mind and body or something like that). I did PHIT class and burned almost 500 calories. I just can’t get my eating under control.

Now do I even eat dinner? Do I let all those oreo’s be dinner? I feel like crap now since I just loaded my belly with fat, carbs, and sugar. I think I’ll wait and see if I get hungry and really try to pay attention to those hunger pains. Are they really for food, or do they stand for something else.

Ugh, tomorrow is a new day. Let’s hope it goes better.

whirlwind week

Wow, I can’t believe it is already Saturday! Actually I’m relieved that it is Saturday. The last few days have been a whirlwind. I don’t think I have ever been busier at work, or more motivated or excited to do things.

Tuesday…you can read more here.

Wednesday…My boss and I had a meeting that I was anticipating since it was scheduled about 2 weeks ago. Everything went really well, and I’m excited about the new year and what one of my new projects is going to be. Plus, I get to travel to Austin next week to meet with a co-worker in another division of the company to determine the roles in the project. I’m really hoping I can oversee it all, it is right up my alley! However I did skip the lunchtime PHIT class at work. I knew we were going to have to run a mile for time, and I just am not able to run b/c of my shin splints. So I skipped out.I did go to the gym after work and did 30 min. bike/elliptical workout, plus I speed walked a mile. So I made up for missing out on the PHIT class mile. That felt good.

Thursday…Finally the day my alma mater got to play in a bowl game after a 7 year absence! I headed down to Players Sports Bar in Clairmont Mesa for our alumni gathering to watch the game. I was surprised by the turn out, and I met some fun people. I knew I wasn’t going to know anyone going in, but everyone was so nice and excited about the game. And we won the game! Our interim head coach gave a rousing pregame speech that’s been played repeatedly on sportscenter, other sports talk shows and even Don Imus.

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to go tackle someone! I really loved the tradition behind the special helmets they wore. It was a great night. Plus we made history by being the first team to win 10 games a year after we lost 10 games!!! Love and Honor to Miami!

Friday…I talk so much about my beloved alma mater, that everyone kept telling me great game at work. That was pretty cool. Work stuff, first thing of the day, my boss asked to see me, so I walked in, and he closed the door. I had been feeling pretty confident about my job and the company and my relationship with my boss, so I didn’t have that pit in my stomach feeling like I have had so many other times. And I had no reason to worry this time either. My boss knows that I have been very patient since I started in my current position, and he feels things are finally going to get rolling for our department and wants me to be more involved in a few projects. I do have a unique position and a versatile skill set, so I feel like everything is coming together. Now I’m just hoping that a promotion is in the near future. That is one of my goals for the year and I think with the work that is coming my way, I will be able to be successful. Plus he wants me to go to Minneapolis the week after next for a meeting with him. Busy, busy, busy! I’m just praying that I don’t get overwhelmed, and that I can recognize the signs when that is happening. I did make it to PHIT class at lunch, which I was dreading, but I went and it wasn’t bad. I was just exhausted by 3 o’clock though and still had a bunch of work to get done. I ended up leaving early since I had a pretty bad headache, but I brought the laptop home and was thinking of going into the office on Sat. or Sun.

Today, I got to sleep in, take a nap, get my haircut, return a Christmas gift, and just catch up on the DVR. I am stoked to not have much to do today. And tomorrow I am going to brunch with my girlfriends to celebrate some birthdays. I’m so excited! And I don’t think I’ll be going into the office. Oh well. Work will still be there on Monday and it’s not really time sensitive.

Looking back, I still haven’t done my resolutions. I’m trying to be deliberate about them, and really plan and mean what I put into them. I have a good start, but I don’t think I’m ready to share.

Until next time! Have a great weekend!
